Stadium Spotlight: First Horizon Park

For the next stadium in our Spotlight series, we're going to Nashville! This is a Minor League park with Major League amenities. Plus, it's home of the guitar-shaped scoreboard!

Located in the heart of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, First Horizon Park (formerly First Tennessee Park) is a must-visit destination for baseball fans and travelers alike. Home to the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, this modern ballpark offers an unforgettable game-day experience that blends top-tier baseball with the vibrant culture of Music City.

It's a beautiful park and a great place to watch a game. I've sat everywhere from two rows behind the dugout to the outfield berm and always had a great time. Plus, given that it's a Triple-A park, you never know who might be in the minors on a rehab assignment! I have been lucky enough to catch Joey Votto, Christian Yelich, and Jose Altuve in Nashville.

A Brief History

First Horizon Park opened in 2015 as a replacement for the historic Herschel Greer Stadium, which had been the Sounds’ home since 1978. The new stadium was built to provide a state-of-the-art facility that could accommodate Nashville’s growing baseball fan base while also serving as a multi-purpose entertainment venue.

Game-Day Experience

Attending a game at First Horizon Park is about more than just baseball—it's a full-fledged experience. The park offers:

  • A Stunning Skyline View: The stadium is positioned to give fans a breathtaking view of downtown Nashville, making night games particularly picturesque.

  • The Band Box: One of the most unique aspects of the park, this outdoor social area beyond right field features games like ping pong, cornhole, and shuffleboard.

  • Family-Friendly Atmosphere: With a spacious lawn seating area, a kids' playground, and frequent promotional events, First Horizon Park is perfect for families looking to enjoy America’s pastime.

  • Signature Foods: No trip to the ballpark is complete without indulging in some classic ballpark food. First Horizon Park serves up unique local flavors, too.

Beyond Baseball

While baseball is the main attraction, First Horizon Park also hosts concerts, festivals, and other special events throughout the year. The venue’s versatility makes it a hub for entertainment beyond just sports.

Tips for Visiting

If you're planning a visit, here are a few tips to enhance your experience:

  • Buy Tickets Early: Popular games, especially weekend series, can sell out quickly.

  • Arrive Early: This gives you time to explore the park, grab some food, and soak in the atmosphere before the first pitch. Parking can be difficult for day games during the week.

  • Check the Promotions Calendar: The Sounds offer fun promotions, from fireworks nights to themed events that add extra excitement to the game.

Final Thoughts

Whether you're a lifelong baseball fan or just looking for a fun outing in Nashville, First Horizon Park delivers a fantastic experience. From its modern amenities to its lively game-day atmosphere, it’s a ballpark that truly captures the spirit of Music City. So grab your glove, get your tickets, and head to First Horizon Park for an unforgettable time at the ballgame!
